Sometimes we face obstacles in business that seem insurmountable. Whether it is starting a business or achieving a certain revenue target, business goals are challenging. Recently I spoke with Sage Business Expert and mind-set strategist Frederique Murphy of Mountain Moving Mindset. Frederique explained to me that with the right mind-set anything is possible. I had to find out more so I interviewed Frederique to gain a better understanding of the work she does with business leaders.
Beatrice Whelan – Frederique, tell me more about yourself and why you started your own business?
Frederique Murphy – Hi Beatrice! Mmmm, where do I start… I’ve always been fascinated by the mind, and our ability to control it to allow us to make it happen, whatever our “it” is. So, after immersing myself into the self-development world, at first for my own journey, I knew that I had stumbled upon something special: I felt I had discovered this amazing power. It felt like this was a secret weapon, but I knew I did not want to keep it secret, and wanted to use it to empower others.
At that moment, my company was born, to be the vehicle to my vision: make an impact in this world by helping people, to always be true to themselves, access their full potential, and live to the fullest. Next, came my mission: I combined my life, business and mind expertise, and developed the Mountain Moving Mindset (M3) platform.
M3 is dedicated to deliver a wealth of mindset resources to help my clients become the true leaders of their life, career and business. In essence, to help them leverage the M3 Power within, so that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to, and turn their dreams into reality.
BW – What types of services do you provide for your clients and what type of people are your typical clients?
FM – At first glance, it could seem like I’m working with everybody, but I don’t. Yes, I do work with a wide range of audiences, from individuals, to entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and large organisations, but my clients all share a common desire: the desire to change something in their life, career, or business; the desire to want more and breakthrough whatever is holding them back.
Many people are unhappy and unfulfilled with where they are at, but not all of these people are my clients. My clients are the ones, who have made the decision to make it happen – that commitment is critical. And, from that moment on, I provide them with a series of services and products to help them on their journey; specifically M3 resources to help them strategise with vision, design with clarity, act with focus, and lead with momentum, as they move their own mountains, one after the other!
BW – Mindfulness is a term that is very popular at the moment. Is this something you think people need to focus on?
FM – Yes, absolutely! If you’ve ever read one of my books, articles, blog posts, or even listened to one of my radio interviews, you’ve probably heard me say that if Mindset had an A, it would be for Awareness! The word ‘mindfulness’ is an English translation of the Sanskrit word ‘smrti’, which also translates as ‘awareness’. Awareness is a core mindset facet, as the more aware you are, the more in control you get.
In fact, it is so important, that I have partnered with Synaptic Potential, a UK company, with whom I’ve co-designed a dedicated Mindfulness workshop for individuals and organisations. BW – What does a typical working day for you consist of?
FM – That’s one of the things I LOVE about what I do: nothing is typical, and from one day to another, the work is totally different. Having said that, I can give you an idea of what happens during a week at our M3 HQs!
The week usually starts with me and my team, discussing what’s coming up, and ensuring everyone knows what to do, including me 😉 I’ll find out about client work, such as my 1-2-1 sessions, and company workshops; event work, such as my keynotes and talks; interview work, such as radio or podcast ones. All of these vary from week to week.
In addition to these services, producing content is another strategic piece, as I continuously work on my own range of M3 transformational products; so, that can mean, creating and recording in the studio a new visualisation, track such as my popular Reach New Heights audio, or writing a chapter for my upcoming book, or writing columns and articles for various newspapers and magazines I write for.
And, last, but not least, I manage my M3 platform, and its community; the M3 Power Community is growing every day, and I provide its members with value several times a week. On top of that, I also personally run my own social media channels, and my friends, fans, followers, connections, subscribers will tell you that I not only provide daily value, but also take the time to connect and engage.
BW – What other living entrepreneur do you admire most?
FM – This is a great question, and a hard one to answer as I admire so many entrepreneurs. I could start listing, but the real answer is simple: every entrepreneur. I’m driven and inspired everyday by entrepreneurs who step outside of their comfort zones, stretch and grow to make it happen, and they really deserve admiration and respect for reaching new heights in their life, career, and business.
BW – You say that ‘You can accomplish anything you set your mind to, and turn your dreams into reality.’ Is mindset really the key to overcoming obstacles?
FM – Without a shadow of a doubt! Your mindset is your philosophy of life: it drives every single thing that you do in life, and in the way that you lead yourself, your career, your business. And, when you face obstacles, it is your mindset that will guide your reactions. Having a Mountain Moving Mindset will support you in adversity, and help you overcome challenges and obstacles along your journey, so that you continue pushing through and progress.
BW – I’ve always admired your confidence Frederique. Is this something that comes naturally to you or something that you’ve had to work on?
FM – Oh, thank you for saying that Beatrice!!! It means a lot; particularly since there was a time, when confident would definitely not have been a word you would have used to describe me; in fact, it was the absolute opposite…! I work a lot on confidence with my clients, because confidence is a skill, and therefore can be taught and learned.
It starts in the mind, as it is a state of mind, and one that you can step in consciously every single day. I’ll even go further than that and say that if you don’t step in it, you will struggle with your confidence. You see, people we describe as confident “just don’t have it”; we consistently apply a series of confidence strategies as part of our daily routines, and as a result, are seen as confident. It is like an on/off button, and we have it in our power, to switch it on thanks to the power of our mind. The magic of it, is that the more you do it, the less you actually have to do it, as the brain learns and remembers, and one day, it becomes natural, but in fact, it is because of having consistently executed these strategies, day in, day out.
BW – If someone is stuck in a rut (either personally or professionally) what one thing do you think they can do to change their situation?
FM – I know exactly what they can do, and it is simple. In fact, it is so simple, that it could wrongly be dismissed, because “it sounds too easy, and surely cannot be that easy to work!”. The truth is that the simplest solutions often work the best, and when you are stuck, in any areas of your life, career or business, the one strategy you want to activate is to change whatever it is you are unhappy with.
Here is a three-step approach: start by identifying where the change is wanted: take a piece of paper, and write “I’m unhappy with…” and start filling in the blanks, being as specific as possible. Next, decide to change by making the conscious decision to change: take another piece of paper, and write at least six reasons why the change is important to you, see it as you building a strong case for it. Finally, change: take another piece of paper, draw a table with four columns, with the following headings: “Things I have decided to change:”, “My changing actions”, “Accountability” and “Date by”, and fill it in.
This is what I call your M3 Change Plan, and it is entirely up to you to start actioning it. The instant you start doing it, you’ll start feeling better, and be on your way out of your rut.
